World Health Organisation launched an udated edition of drinking water guidelines on 4 July 2011 to push water suppliers to systematically manage the poten tial risk of contaminants on entering water from the catch ment to the consumer. Launched at the Singapore Inter national Water Week (http://www.who.int/en) they can help governments strengthen their management of drink ing water quality by adopting water safety planning.
The new edition is based on the latest scientific evidence and includes hundreds of risk assessments on specific water borne hazards. It is estimated that two million people die from water bome diseases and billions more suffer illness around the world and most of them are children under five.
